Naima Boussofara

Dr. Boussofara, a graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure (Tunisia), Exeter University (UK), and the University of Texas at Austin (UT), is an Associate Professor of Arabic Studies.

She is an Applied Linguist and a Sociolinguist. Her general research interest is in the sociolinguistics of the Arab World and TAFL (teaching Arabic as a foreign language). Her primary research focus is on contact linguistics (multilingualism, bilingualism, codeswitching, and diglossic switching), and the socio-cultural foundations of linguistic choices in political and media discourse.

Prior to joining KU in 2000, Dr. Boussofara has had teaching experiences in the UK, at the University of Tunis, Cornell College in Iowa, and the University of Texas at Austin.
